Blessed are the poor, for yours is the Kingdom of Heaven
Blessed are you that hunger, for you shall be filled
Blessed are you that weep, for you shall laugh
Blessed are you when you are hated and persecuted
Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in Heaven
for so they persecuted the prophets who came before you
You have heard that it was said, "Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth." But I tell you: Do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. And if someone wants to sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. And if someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. Give the one who begs from you, and do not refuse the one who wants to borrow from you.
You have heard that it was said, "Love your neighbor." But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.
For if you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? And if you also do good to those who do good to you, what credit is that to you? Do not even the pagans do the same?
And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners to receive as much again. Instead, love your enemies, and do good and lend, and expecting nothing back; and your reward will be great.
Thus you will become children of you Father in Heaven for He makes his sun rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.
Be merciful, therefore, as your heavenly Father is merciful.
